Assisted hatching is a technique in assisted reproductive technology where a small hole is made in the outer layer of the embryo (zona pellucida) to facilitate its hatching from this layer and implantation in the uterus. This technique is used in some cases where the embryo has a thick zona pellucida, making it difficult for the embryo to hatch and implant.
